About EPUC

ABOUT EPUC

Background/Establishment

For a very long time now, the people of the Volta Region have been agitating for a university to be established in the region. Therefore, when the door was opened by the government of Ghana to private organisations and individuals to establish universities, it became a challenge to the E.P. Church. At its 58th Synod held at Achimota School in Accra in the year 1999, the E.P. Church resolved to take the bold step of establishing a university in the Volta Region.

Since its inception some 160 years ago in Ghana, the E.P. Church has concerned herself with the provision of social services for the people. The church has therefore been engaged in areas such as establishing of schools at the basic and secondary levels, building of health facilities, establishing agricultural institutions to provide food to feed the population, and providing hospitality facilities. These projects have been undertaken to practicalise the mission statement of the church aimed at “Bringing light to where there is darkness”.

Our Name

The official name for the institution is Evangelical Presbyterian University College (EPUC). It is dubbed The Premier University of the Volta Region. Even though the institution has been spearheaded by the E.P. Church, it is intended to bring university education to the doorstep of the people of the Volta Region and Ghana as a whole.
